Olympics in Paris: guide to follow the sporting event

Imagine that your next vacation in France will be dedicated to watching the Olympics in Paris . Did you think about that? So it’s time to plan and make the trip happen! If traveling to the city of Luz at a normal time is already incredible, but it requires planning, imagine the biggest sporting event in the world.

Find out when the games are, the average costs of visiting Paris for ten days and what you can’t leave out before embarking. A complete guide to make your experience at the Olympic Games in Paris unforgettable. Let’s go!

When will the Olympics be in Paris?

The Olympics in Paris begin on July 26th (Friday) and run until August 11th (Sunday) 2024 .

During this break, the city of Paris will be filled with local and international delegations and tourists from all over the world to follow the 48 disciplines and 32 sports.

In addition to everything there is to do in Paris , there will be even more with several simultaneous competitions.

Olympic competition venues in Paris

Paris City Hall seems to have thought of everything. According to the organization, the Games to be held in the capital will be divided into 15 competition venues in a compact concept, which facilitates movement for the public and the athletes themselves.

How to buy a ticket for the Olympics in Paris?

Tickets for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games are on sale exclusively through the Paris 2024 organization ‘s official website .

No other platforms are authorized to sell tickets. At the time of publication, the site was only available in English and French.

How much do tickets cost?

Tickets for the Olympics range from €24 to €950 for ordinary games, and can start at €2,700 for ceremonies.

According to the organization of the Olympic Games, tickets at popular prices in the range of €24 are possible, as 15% of the most expensive tickets end up paying for the cheapest seats.

What is the daily expense in Paris?

I included the costs of items that are essential to me in the table below and arrived at a value of €119.10 per person . Your preferences will probably be different, but it is possible to have a dimension of spending.

Expenses only consider on-site costs, so accommodation and tickets for the Olympics must already be purchased.

Item Average value
Food (simple lunch or dinner) €15
Mid-day snack at a boulangerie €7
Coffee in boulangerie 5€
Bottle of water on the market €1.50
Transport* €5.60
Attractions €35
Shopping €60
Total €119.10

* The transport price considers the Navigo semaine (€30), valid for seven days, which allows use in all areas of Paris, plus three days of Navigo jour (€8.45 per day). The total value of expenses was divided by 10 to arrive at the value above.

Transport in Paris is the best way to get around the city. The links to access the Navigo website are only in French.

How many euros to take to the Olympics in Paris?

Based on the table above, considering 10 days of travel, the cost would be around €1,200 per person . However, you need to consider that you will eventually eat at a more expensive restaurant, drink wine, take an Uber or buy a ticket to the Moulin Rouge. Therefore, consider that €1,800 is a much more appropriate amount .

To avoid the exchange rate for cash, whose IOF is higher, I recommend using a multi-currency card like Wise . The card is free and allows you to purchase euros via the app based on the commercial exchange rate. Furthermore, carrying a card instead of cash is infinitely safer.

If by chance you decide to extend your trip and head to a destination where the currency is not the euro, you can convert your euros in seconds. The Wise card is the cheapest and safest way to make payments in foreign currency.

What to do in the city during the Olympics in Paris?

Even though you’ll be in Paris for the games, you won’t be spending the entire day watching sports. So, here are some tips on what to do in Paris to enjoy the city in between one attraction and another.

Paris Museums

Even if you are not a fervent art lover, it is unthinkable to go to Paris and not visit its museums. The Louvre, for example, houses the Mona Lisa and the magnificent sculpture Victoire de Samothrace. A visit that can last two hours or a whole day, depending on your mood.

At the Pompidou Center you will have the option of having fun with contemporary works, photographs and famous sculptures. The building, designed by Renzo Piano, is a work in itself.

By purchasing the Paris Museum Pass for 2, 4 or 6 days you can avoid the museum queues and guarantee access to the main Paris Museums with free cancellation, if you change your mind.

Eiffel Tower

Some Olympic games activities will take place on the Champ de Mars, overlooking the Tower, so you will definitely see it. But don’t restrict yourself to seeing it from below!

It is possible to purchase tickets to climb the iron lady and have a panoramic view of the city of lights. It’s a couper le souffle (breathtaking) experience !

Boat trip on the River Seine

Eddy de Pretto immortalized, in a fun and dramatic way, the Bateaux-Mouches in his song that was successful on French radio.

And you, in Paris, will be able to have the experience of dining and taking a boat trip on the River Seine , the most famous river in Europe, aboard a legitimate bateau-mouche (a long, tourist boat).

Aimless walking and free attractions

Balader , as we like to say, costs zero euros. You can visit attractions without necessarily entering them if you are just interested in observing all the magnitude from the outside. And that, in itself, is already a valuable itinerary experience in Paris .
